Applications, Cover Letters, and Interviews
After you are done your education as a certified nursing assistant, you next have to find a job and while there is a healthy demand for CNAs, there is still legwork to be done. Like any job hunt, you have to do things like get a resume together, put up a cover letter, do applications and of course go through the dreaded Interview. However, like any job applicant, there are some ways to make the process easier and for a certified nursing assistant, any bit of ease now will help later!
Resume/Cover Letter
Your cover letter and resume will be the first thing that your potential employer sees of you and that makes them extremely important. In the cover letter, make sure to briefly outline why you want to work for that specific hospital or clinic, how you can help them, and a thank you for their consideration. The resume is where you expound on the cover letter; discuss your education, your background, and your skills. Make sure to include even your work experience while you had your education as any job experience will show that you are not a complete newcomer who will have to have your hand held.
Make sure that your resume is typed up, clean of grammatical and spelling errors and looks professional. There are templates you can use in many word processors that allow you to make a very nice looking resume with little effort.
Interview
If your resume looks promising, you will be called in for the dreaded Interview; though there really is nothing to fear. The interview is not only a chance for the CNA to be interviewed, but also for you to see what the hospital or clinic you’ll be working in is like. When you have your interview, it’s important to be polite, earnest, honest, and professional; this is to showcase what you wrote in your resume. Make sure to only answer questions, act like your a guest in their office and try to minimize your inquiries about money and benefits unless invited to ask. Being a good candidate in an interview is all about being polite and honest, so keep that in mind.
Getting your education as a certified nursing assistant is only the first step; going out to get the job is next! Remember to stay positive, well spoken, and professional and you’ll be working before you know it.
